This strain was influenced by both Choctaw and Chickasaw animals.

It seems their bloodlines were almost lost at the end of the 20th century. However in 1997 a descendant of the lineage was discovered by the Cherokee Heritage Center. Considered to be critically endangered, their numbers are very low. They are generally only found in the state of Georgia, particularly in New Echota.

Features

Average height 14.3 hands

Physique

Head has a broad forehead and a straight or convex profile
Body is deep
Chest is narrow
Tail is low-set

Traditional Colors

Generally pinto, but can be found in other colors.

Temperament

Vigorous and intelligent

Use

Riding
Breeding

Helpful Links

American Indian Horse Registry
Cherokee Heritage Center

Intro Not an official breed, the Whitmire Horse is a strain of Cherokee Horse and part of the Spanish Colonial Horse family.

[8
124,6
post-10050","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-usa","tag-critically-endangered","tag-pinto
["GET
