Not an official breed, the Veiga Horse is a strain of Lusitano<\/a> which is bred in central Portugal. This strain was developed in the mid 19th century by Rafael Jos\u00e9 da Cunha and based on a family tradition. The strain was influenced by two Alter Real<\/a> studs gifted to Rafael from King Ferdinand II. While not an official breed, they are registered under the Lusitano studbook.
