We have 3 apple trees near or overhanging the pasture. In the past 2 years, we have had 2 horses choke on medium-sized apples that fell on the ground after a storm. The apples were not ripe yet. One horse had to be taken to a university vet clinic. This year we are putting up temporary fencing around the trees and taking down any branches hanging over the pasture. In previous years, I have just raked up apples, but this year looks like a bumper crop. The trees were so tiny 30 years ago !!

OMG the fruit the horse loves best is toxic! Well, I know not to give out too many apples to a horse, but I didn't know that the stems, seeds and sometimes leaves were sometimes fatal. Thanks a lot.
