Bitterweed

Hymenoxys odorata, Bitterweed, Sneezeweed

Description

Erect annual, stem purple in color at the base with alternate leaves. Leaves are woolly underneath. Flowers are bright yellow. Bitter taste and distinct smell.

Only during drought conditions, unpalatable. However, animals without other viable food sources can develop a taste for bitterweed.

All parts of the plant are toxic.

Lack of appetite, depression, arched back stance, bloating, green nasal discharge, weight loss.
